Although pet parents generally enjoy a spa treatment, their fur babies would say a day at the groomer is stressful at best. They wait in cages between bath, dry, cut, and pickup — often to the unrelaxing sound of many barking dogs.

Diamond in the Ruff Mobile Pet Spa promises a more positive event.

“We take time to build a trusting, one-on-one relationship with the pet and the owner,” said Maggie Springer, who started the mobile grooming business in 2009. Customers are typically busy owners of pets with special needs in Edmond, Nichols Hills, and northwest Oklahoma City.

To accommodate active family schedules, Diamond in the Ruff offers latchkey service. A Diamond groomer goes into the home while the owner is away, escorts the pet to the van for grooming, and places the animal back inside the house afterward.

For senior pets or those with sensitive physical conditions, mobile groomers flex to provide comfort and security for animals that are blind, deaf, or undergoing cancer treatment.

Although industry certification requirements vary, Diamond in the Ruff commits to continuing education to stay current. The company also competes in state and national competitions such as GroomTeam USA, Inc.

“There’s always a new tool, a new technique, or a new Doodle variety that requires specialized knowledge,” Springer said.

Diamond in the Ruff is also proud to have the area’s only mobile certified feline master groomerTM, accredited through the National Cat Groomers Institute. Aside from matted fur and long nails, grooming can extend to even hairless cats, which also benefit from skin-care treatment.

With a code of ethics that includes charity, Diamond in the Ruff works closely with Bella SPCA, does makeovers for rescue rodeo, and provides free grooming sessions to help rescued animals be rehomed.
